1. Find Proper Arch Support
Whether you have realized it or not, your foot has a certain contortion that is unique to you.
That said, everyone’s arches can be placed into one of 3 arch types: high arches, normal arches, or flat feet.
Each one needs a layer of support to not put unwanted pressure on your arch type.
For example, if you have high arches, you need to find sandals or flip flops that support high arches. If you were to wear sandals without support, then your arches are caused to bend with every step that you take. Over time, that can lead to severe issues.
2. Break-In Each Pair
Here’s the biggest mistake that most people make when purchasing sandals or flip flops. They invest in a pair right before the big summer vacation, then don’t use them until the vacation starts.
The only problem is that your vacations generally consist of long periods of standing and walking, if not running.
If you’d never worn those pair of flip flops before that day of long walks, they haven’t had a chance to be broken in. That will result in foot pain such as blisters, sore feet, and even cuts.
Instead, take the time to gradually break them in before the big trip. Take them on a few excursions that will require a little walking, but not too much.

However, one portion of your foot that takes the biggest toll from thong sandals is the area between your big toe and second toe. The constant friction from the material as you walk can lead to chafing and cuts in that area – ouch!

4. Wear Socks With Your Sandals
No, this isn’t a suggestion to go out in public with sicks on your sandals or flip flops. No fashion trends are being proclaimed in this article.

5. Purchase Grip Pad Inserts
Some people have a huge pet peeve against flip flops and sandals where you can feel your foot slipping as you walk.
Your sandals might fit perfect, but still, feel like they’re going to slip off from the material on the top of them.
One of the best solutions for this problem is to purchase grip pad inserts to place on your sandal. Some are made of silicone while others are made of gel (which is extra grippy).
Not to mention, the inserts will provide more cushion for your foot as you walk, it’s a win-win scenario!
6. Purchase The Right Size
This one might seem a bit obvious, but it bears repeating that if you don’t make an exhaustive effort to purchase the correct size, you only have yourself to blame.
As previously mentioned, every foot is different, so sandal companies can only give you so much advice on the size that most likely fits.
However, there are other factors such as your foot’s arch, width, height, etc. that could change the sizing up or down.
