everyone has a story, everyone has a place they came from, everyone has a meaning in this world. im here to share mine with you. my name is bree labiak. i was born September 5 2003, in Saint Joseph’s Medical Centre, Joliet, IIlinois. When i was twenty- one months old i was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. CF is a chronic and progressive disease that affects my digestive system and deteriorates my lungs over time. Cystic Fibrosis is not what defines me as a person, i know I am much more than Cystic Fibrosis. I lived in Illinois until i was five years old. my father was a very verbally abusive person who would do anything to degrade me and my mom, leaving me feel worthless. some days i still feel that way. i remember this one day, i promised myself i would be bigger and better than him when i grew up. i promised myself i would find a new home with just my mom and i. i promised myself i would be strong. i told myself i would do anything to forget those five years. it’s not easy to forgive or forget what’s happened in the past- i know that for sure. it’s easy to let the worst moments of your life consume ur mind. it’s easy to let stuff get to you. something I’ve found is not easy is leaving. leaving Illinois. leaving the one person that told me i would never be good enough. leaving behind all of the sad and painful memories. when i was seven years old i watched @bethanyhamilton Soul Surfer and was inspired, my mom found the @mauliolafoundation and signed me up for a surfing event. surfing has helped me so much mentally. i know “it’s just a sport” but to me it is so much more than a sport. surfing is what changed my life forever. surfing gave me a purpose, and surfing truly made me feel like i WAS good enough. having CF, being the first professional surfer with CF, being strong, and being real is what defines me. if you or someone you know is going through what i went through please share this post with them. you are strong. you are worthy. do not ever waste your time trying to be someone else, be real. you are real. #cf #cfwarrior #surfer #prosurfer #inspirational #traumarecovery #youareworthy #iloveyou #strength #real #realism #spreadrealism #share #shareplease
